Spending problem?

by Paul Kern , Chair

We think there's a spending problem.

Not a funding problem.

[October 30, 2025] The time is fast approaching to get out and vote.

Please do your homework on the school bond proposal before voting and don't be swayed by the propaganda. Look at the facts!

A recent TH article showed the facts: There are far fewer kids in the school system now, so why do we need to build a massive new school when a beautiful, less costly renovation can be done? Here are examples of how to benefit our kids without burdening the taxpayers.

  1. Senior is a perfect, local example. Done for $65 million.
  2. The two (2) Davenport middle school renovations (with additions) were just completed for under $60 million.

The Save Fund is $13 million a year. Every year. If the school board can't work with $13 million in Save Funds for the next 25 years, there is something seriously wrong. If my math is right, that's $325 million!

I encourage you to Vote NO!, which will require the school board to go back to the drawing board.

Schools are going to have to consolidate no matter what because these are the facts: There are fewer kids, and they cannot continue to sustain schools that only have 300 kids in them.

These are facts, not rhetoric. VOTE NO!

All I ask is that we build schools for learning and not a showplace. I am asking the Dubuque Community School District to be more practical when building or remodeling schools."
